Balconies and terraces can vary in
size, construction and may be prefabricated - this will
influence the selection of the waterproof membrane.
There are many considerations to take in to account
including deck movement, differential movement, drainage,
waterproofing continuity at expansion joints, drainage
outlets, deck finishes and most important what is below
the balcony or terrace – car parking? Habitable
space?
RIW Flexiseal is a liquid applied membrane based on Polyurethane resins and is ideal for applications to both small balconies and larger terraced areas where it can be applied by hand or spray. It can also be applied to various substrates such as concrete, masonry, steel or existing asphalt. RIW Flexiseal simplifies the waterproofing installation at the critical areas, especially on smaller complex details. The product must however be covered and protected after application.
RIW Double Drain,
a high performance drainage board should be considered
to overlay the RIW
Flexiseal as a protective layer and to promote free
drainage to the drainage outlets, where necessary.
RIW Toughseal, blinded with RIW Grade 1 Aggregate, will provide a waterproof coating to steps, risers, balconies, etc., where a mechanical key for finishes is required. RIW Toughseal has good impact resistance.
