Planters

Planter waterproofing may appear less critical than in other areas however they often require a membrane to prevent dampness spoiling the aesthetic nature of the design. Where possible adequate drainage should be provided within the planter and the horizontal base, if used, should be laid to falls. Irrigation pipes may be required and consideration should be given to how to waterproof around these services. The membrane in a planter should be protected against the potential for damage during backfilling and garden maintenance.
RIW Heviseal, a
liquid applied bitumen solution, is UV Resistant and
can be applied to concrete or masonry planters. RIW
Flexiseal is a high performance alternative, with
its colour coded quality control system and excellent
flexibility making it especially suitable for masonry
built planters. RIW
Flexiseal is particularly beneficial when applied
onto complicated shapes/profiles and simplifies the
detailing around irrigation pipes and other services.
RIW Toughseal may also be considered when a high degree of chemical resistance is required.
RIW Protection board should be used to protect the membrane against the backfilling and the potential for subsequent damage. A root barrier, in addition to the RIW Protection board, may also be required. |
