Into the Dragon's Den
London
Zoo houses several thousands of diverse animal species.
Since July 2004, you’ve been able to admire the
Komodo Dragon from Indonesia.
The Komodo dragon is the largest living lizard in the
world, can weigh up to 80kg, can be up to 3m in length
and as a predator has toxic and highly virulent saliva.
You may be forgiven for asking
why the Komodo Dragon is featuring in the news columns
of a waterproofing manufacturer’s website?
The arrival of the Komodo Dragons presented
a real waterproofing problem for the London Zoo staff.
Indeed, they needed to find a product which could resist
and protect the floor from the toxicity of the ragons’
saliva. To find a solution to this unlikely waterproofing
problem the design team approached RIW.
After having evaluated the design considerations,
RIW’s technical team proposed
RIW
Toughseal to solve the problem successfully.
RIW Toughseal is typically used to provide a proven
barrier to water and water vapour, to provide protection
against mechanical abrasion and chemical resistance
for many aggressive fluids.
RIW
Toughseal,
a two coat liquid applied membrane, based on epoxy resin
technology has been proven to be the right product for
our customer. Consequently, we will now be able to add
Komodo Dragon saliva to the list of chemicals RIW Toughseal
will resist!
