Waterproofing Problems Solved
at Winchester Open Day!
Hotel
du Vin, Winchester
Thursday 17th May 2007
Hotel du Vin, Winchester proved to
be a very popular choice of venue for RIW’s
recent Technical Open Day. The beautiful Georgian building
provided a welcoming and intimate atmosphere for the
event, hosted by RIW’s Technical
Experts with the purpose of offering local architects
guidance on the identification of common problems associated
with waterproofing today’s structures and how
to avoid them.
A technical presentation focusing on Waterproofing at
or Below Ground Level applications was repeated 3 times
during the day by RIW Technical Advisors
Adam Jervis and Mark Anstee, each time followed by a
lively Q&A session.
The technical presentation gave an introduction to BS8102
(Code of Practice for the protection of structures against
water from the ground) outlining the critical design
considerations that influence the form of construction
and material selection. This included guidance on the
most commonly used waterproofing materials, including
reference to strengths and weaknesses of the systems,
together with application methods and advice on surface
preparation.
