Aqua Channel
RIW Cavity Drain Systems manage water that penetrates the external structure and direct it to a suitable discharge point. As such, there is a permanent reliance on the cavity to collect groundwater and therefore a need for access points to allow the system to be maintained. RIW Aqua Channel, Outlets and Rodding Eye, allow the RIW Cavity Drain System to remain fully maintainable throughout its life, fully in accordance with BS8102:2009.
RIW Aqua Channel is a PVC drainage conduit designed to control water ingress in below ground structures. It is fitted around the perimeter of the floor at the vulnerable wall/floor junction and is suited for use in conjunction with RIW Cavity Drain Systems, waterproof membranes and coatings.
Water entering the building through the walls is controlled behind the RIW Cavity Drain System, and diverted down through the RIW Aqua Channel at the base of the wall. The water enters the RIW Aqua Channel through pre-drilled drainage holes and must then be diverted to a suitable drainage point, either natural, or a sump and mechanical pump.
As a general rule, a minimum of one sump/discharge point is required for every 50 linear metre of run of RIW Aqua Channel.
RIW Aqua Channel Outlet
Consists of a PVC bend and a PVC male coupling (with swivel action) which is fitted to the base of the RIW Aqua Channel to allow water to be taken from it to the water collection point (sump and pump) via a 40mm diameter solvent welded PVC pipe.
RIW Aqua Channel End Outlet
Where gravity fed drainage is used, this outlet converts the pentagonal shape of the RIW Aqua Channel in to a round aperture for connection to a 40mm diameter pipe and allows water to be discharged in to a ‘P’ trapped gully or soak away.
RIW Aqua Channel Rodding Eye
It is recommended that one RIW Aqua Channel Rodding Eye is installed every 10 linear metre run of the RIW Aqua Channel to allow periodic cleaning of the RIW Cavity Drain System.
RIW Anti-Lime Coating
Applying a anti-lime coating such as RIW Cementseal Primer to the concrete will not only significantly reduce the amount of free lime leaching in to the cavity system but will also improve the water resistance of the basement structure, which in turn will enhance the performance of the cavity drain system
